Iceman Deadline March 7

From the Iceman Race Site:

Okay, here's the new plan! If you click on Register Now, you will find a pdf of the 2009 Iceman entry form. Print that and fill it out. Then throw it back in the mail to the address on the form by this Saturday, March 7th, and we'll take it from there. The key is that ALL entries postmarked by Saturday March 7th will be accepted.

We are close to being able to post a list of the riders who were able to register on Monday evening. SBO has been working around the clock (literally) to clean up the data and to correct duplicate credit card charges and that process is almost completed.

Sincerely,

Steve Brown

TMI headed to Ray's!
We will be heading to Ray's MTB indoor park in Cleveland, Ohio:

www.raysmtb.com

On the weekend of March 7th, we plan to take 6 of the TMI kids out to enjoy the park, and everyone is invited to join in! There are plenty of volunteer opportunities to be had, and it should be a blast!

March 7th is the ride day, during LEGENDS WEEKEND. There will be legendary riders there such as Hans Rey, Dave Mirra, Aaron Chase, Jeff Lenosky, and Kyle Ebbett. It should be a very cool weekend!

Ball/Perkins Turnout
On January 24th, we asked you to head out and support the development of Mountain Biking trails at Ball/Perkins park. Lead by the MMBA and supported by many other groups such as the Rapid Wheelmen, the turnout at the charrette was amazing! Mountain Bike trails had receive approximately 107 votes by the time we showed up around 2:30pm. The only close seconds were 58 votes as a Natural Preserve, and 57 votes for Walking, Hiking, and Ski trails.

We will definitely be looking forward to the outcome of this gathering. Our friends at WMMBA will be submitting some ideas for trails in the near future, so we will let you know what we hear. There were some concerns voiced against the impact that Mountain Biking would have both on the land and the animals that inhabit the land. I believe it is our responsibility as Mountain Biking to educate, and more importantly, emulate the correct way to care for and be good stewards of the beautiful land that God has granted us.

Stay tuned!

Priority Health ends deal with Grand Cycling Classic

The Grand Rapids Press

GRAND RAPIDS -- This year's Priority Health Grand Cycling Classic -- which runs through the streets of downtown Grand Rapids -- has been canceled.

A spokeswoman for the Michigan-based health care provider confirmed the company ended its sponsorship of the race, done in conjunction with Celebration on the Grand, as a result of economic pressures.

"It was the major factor for us," Priority Health's Amy Miller said. "We felt the event here was a huge success, but we had to make some tough decisions in Michigan regarding the economy.

"This was a tough one."

The Grand Cycling Classic last September featured 400 participants in adult and children's divisions competing on a 1.2-kilometer road course. An estimated 6,000 spectators lined the streets to cheer for pro and amateur riders vying for as much as $30,000 in prize money each of the past two summers.

Miller did not rule out supporting the event in the future.
